Waterproofing Masonry with Technoseal DPM
Water is, of course, absolutely essential to all life on earth but it isn't such a good thing when it comes to causing damage to properties! Here at Twistfix, we offer a comprehensive array of products designed to keep this from happening and one of these is Technoseal, a revolutionary paint that creates a durable and reliable liquid damp proof membrane (DPM) on vulnerable masonry.
Technoseal DPM is designed and manufactured by Wykamol, one of the UK's leading brands in this demanding sector. After reading this edition of our blog, which details some of the product's many advantages and benefits, you will be left in no doubt as to why it is a consistent bestseller among our discerning customers at Twistfix.
The unique Technoseal DPM formula contains no plasticisers or solvents, making it non-toxic, non-hazardous and safe for both the user and the environment alike. As the formula contains compounds which are water-based, is can be applied to damp masonry surfaces successfully. Rightly described as a 'formidable shield' and a 'damp-proofing champion', Technoseal DPM boasts an exceptionally low water vapour permeability and also acts as a barrier to prevent potentially-dangerous gases like methane and radon from being transmitted through it.
One of the key advantages of Technoseal DPM is its versatility: it can be applied to sound masonry in pretty much any area both above and beneath ground. It's also ideal for use in wet areas such as showers, bathrooms and kitchens, displaying unimpeded performance even when continuously submerged. Available in Black or White colour options, the strong yet flexible formula dries to an attractive semi-gloss finish.
Applying Technoseal DPM is easy, as illustrated by the following quick guide...
- Any defects on the surface to be treated should first be made good so that the masonry is sound and evenly textured.
- Clean the surface thoroughly, making sure that all dust and loose material is removed.
- Before commencing application, check the ambient temperature as well as that of the surface itself; they should be at a minimum of 7°C.
- You can now apply the first coat of Technoseal DPM using a roller or brush. This coat should be applied to a depth of 0.3mm.
- Wait until the first coat is dry to the touch. This will take at least one hour.
- A second coat should then be applied in a direction perpendicular to the first coat. This application should be done no more than 24 hours after the first application.
- If you intend to carry out a ponding test, make sure that you wait until four days after the application of the second coat.
