We have recently been publishing a series of articles focusing on the expert masonry repair work carried out by Twistfix-registered building contractor Build-Tech (Midlands), who utilise a selection of products from our professional range including long-series drive-fix wall connectors and brick stitching bars. This is the last of three in the series though, as Build-Tech (Midlands) continue to be dedicated Twistfix customers with a busy schedule of work, we expect to be hearing lots more from them in the future.

Architects representing a Methodist Church, located on Claremont Street in the Belgrave area of Leicester recently contacted Twitfix for help. The church is a typical 1900s building of solid brick construction with a tiled roof on a timber frame, the structure is Grade II-listed and, in addition to the church itself, houses a prestigious and world-renowned music school.

Due to the badly-damaged state of the main church building, its demolition had been arranged with a proposal to retain part of the building that was seen fit to be restored. In the process of this demolition, however, the church hall and music school buildings, which were meant to be retained, suffered extreme masonry separation and drainage damage.

After receiving estimates from 3 of our Registered Contractors, Build-Tech (Midlands) were called in and representatives from the company were quickly on the scene to assess the damage and develop a plan for repair. It was ascertained that an extensive series of robust crack stitching repairs would be required throughout the remaining building, as well as the installation of strong extra-long tie pins to the beautiful yet damaged arched masonry above the doors and windows.

As always, the Build-Tech (Midlands) crew were able to fluidly, seamlessly and effectively work with local architects and engineers on the emergency restoration project. Showing once again the skilful and intuitive approach to construction problems that has given their company such an impressive reputation, the crew successfully and efficiently ‘banded up’ the music school auditorium and church hall.

The retro-reinforcement process involved strengthening the external and internal faces of the building’s corners to deliver a lasting repair while all drainage damage was robustly corrected. In line with client requirements, Build-Tech (Midlands) contractors maintained the original appearance of the building throughout the complex masonry repair project, the success of which has allowed the church hall and music school auditorium to continue welcoming visitors.
