Structural Repairs in Oxford

Newman Building Solutions, a Twistfix-registered contractor, recently completed a superstructure repair project in Oxford. The semi-detached property, constructed in the 1950s, had suffered the subsidence as the direct result of a nearby tree whose growth had been left unchecked for many years, causing extensive cracks to internal and external walls.

Oxford City Council own the property as part of their housing stock and awarded the contract to Newman Building Solutions, requiring them to design and then install a structural repair specification to compliment a sub-structure piling scheme that had been designed to restrain subsidence. The NBS specification included bed joint reinforcement provided by Twistfix, and engineered using load tables from the BRE report on the Twistfix helical bars.

Long lengths of Twistfix bars were installed in pairs to form deep masonry beams that spanned the piles and evenly distributed the structural loads to them in order to support the walls along the flank and rear elevation.  Then, Twistfix brick stitching rods were installed to re-tie the fractured masonry. A similar process was carried out on the internal walls, the robust reinforcement being used for stitching the cracks.

When all of the structural work was completed, Newman Building Solutions contractors began on the cosmetic aspects of the job, carrying out decoration works to completely disguise the repairs. Carried out to an exacting standard and well within budget, the work has led to repeat business for the Twistfix-registered contactor.
