Protect Outdoor Timber with Siloxol

Wood has been used as a construction material since the dawn of civilisation and its continued popularity across the millennia is a testament to just how strong, versatile and visually appealing the material really is. To ensure that it maintains these qualities it must be properly maintained, especially by protecting it from the damaging effects of water.

This essential requirement can be quickly, easily and reliably fulfilled with the use of Siloxol Wood Protection Liquid, which is available to purchase at the most competitive price from us here at Twistfix. The unique, super powerful formula can be used on all kinds of softwoods, giving them the vital protection from water that they need to continue delivering optimal performance for many years to come.

Siloxol Wood Protection Liquid is an emulsion of silane and siloxane that, properly applied, reduces the amount of moisture that timber uptakes by as much as 85%. This results in a dramatic reduction in the possibility of timber rotting and warping, while also helping to inhibit organic growths such as mould, algae and lichens on the material's vulnerable surface.

Applying Siloxol Wood Protection Liquid is easy: just follow the steps below.

  • It's important to apply the formula in the right weather conditions. The temperature of the substrate should be no lower than 5°C and no higher than 30°C. Also, make sure that heavy rain is not forecast on the day chosen for application.
  • Deteriorated or otherwise damaged timber should be sanded down first and dusted free of any loose material.
  • Begin by applying a suitable wood preservative. There are several options to choose from on the Twistfix website.
  • If you are planning on staining the timber then do this before commencing application of Siloxol Wood Protection Liquid.
  • Mask the surrounding area and check that the timber surface to be treated is totally dry.
  • Now it's time to start applying the formula using either a brush or a low-pressure pneumatic spray. Continue applying until the surface of the timber is fully saturated.
  • After about two hours the first coat should be touch-dry. You can now proceed to apply a second, lighter coat.
  • All containers and tools used should now be thoroughly washed in warm soapy water.
  • The newly-treated timber will be rain-proof after about eight hours and fully cured within one month.
