Injection Mortar to Repair Cracked Bricks
Whew, what a scorcher! Summertime is well and truly here and, though we (thankfully!) haven't experienced the sweltering and even dangerous temperatures that have affected many countries in Europe recently, the heat here in the UK has definitely made an impact.
Just as brickwork can be affected by very low temperatures, it also reacts to those at the other end of the thermometer. The masonry soaks up heat like a sponge and this in turn causes pressure from thermal expansion to build up within it. This can lead to tiny cracks appearing within the bricks and, once the crack has formed, it only gets larger over time. If such cracks are not repaired as soon as they are noticed, they can allow water to penetrate into the indoor environment, causing issues with damp. They can even affect the very structural integrity of the building.
Filling cracks in brickwork is made easy with a crack injection brick repair kit from Twistfix. Containing everything you need to quickly and effectively seal cracks in brickwork, the kits are available to our customers at an extremely competitive price with absolute professional quality guaranteed as standard.
Here is how to use the kit contents for optimal results...
- As with any structural repair procedure, preparing the area properly is of paramount importance. Start by ensuring that any debris, dust or dirt is removed from the cracks to be repaired. Then you should moisten the area to be treated, making it damp but not over saturating it. Add more water as required during the application process.
- Next, put on the protective gloves provided in the kit. Open the tub and remove the bag of powder.
- Using the tub as a mixing vessel, blend one part of water with four or five parts of the powder component to achieve the desired depth of colour. Make sure the formula is fully mixed and flowing freely.
- Using the provided funnel, fill the included syringe with formula. Attach the supplied extension tube to the syringe if required and begin filling the cracks in the affected brickwork.
- Tools and any spillages can be quickly and easily cleaned with water.
- After curing, the treated bricks can be modelled, shaped or sanded for up to 12 hours following the application.
