Helically twisted crack stitching bars are stainless steel reinforcing rods that permanently reconnect and reinforce cracked walls. Our standard stainless-steel helical bars are 1 metre long and 6 mm in diameter and sold in packs of ten.
Cut or grind slots along the selected bed joints, 500 mm, on each side of the crack. The height of the slot must be 3 mm more than the bar diameter. Clean the openings and flush them with clean water. Mix WHO 60 grout and load it into the applicator. Dispense the mixture to fill each slot to two-thirds deep. Push the rods into the grout and trowel the displaced mortar to fully cover the rod. The grout sets around the peaks and troughs of the helix and bonds the reinforcing rods firmly within the wall. Finish by pointing the wall to conceal and disguise the installation. This crack stitch method repairs vertical, diagonal, and step-cracks in brickwork.
Each grout-bonded helical bar stitches across the crack, absorbing axial loads and spreading them along the entire helix length. A series of stitching bars centred along a crack creates a reinforced zone that increases the brickwork's tensile, shear and flexural strength.
Our 6 mm helical bars comply with EN 845-1 for retrofit masonry reinforcement. One grout-bonded bar delivers tensile resistance of over 8 kN, and two bars in one slot 16 kN. The reinforcement reconnects cracked brickwork, restoring its strength and resistance to further cracking.
Buy our British-made crack stitching bars; the rods have patented engineering tolerances. To fix the helical reinforcement bars into walls, you need WHO 60 grout, a mixing paddle, a pointing iron and a mortar applicator.
