Brick Stain Dyes: A World of Colour

Bricks are often not correctly blended during construction projects, leading to an unattractive and disordered patchwork appearance.  Even with correct colour matching, weathering can cause bricks to lose their colour unevenly, resulting in the same displeasing aesthetic and leaving walls needing cosmetic refurbishment.

A rapid, reliable and cost-effective solution to this common problem is using brick-stain dyes, and we have a comprehensive collection of these permanently in stock at Twistfix. Extremely versatile, the pigments can be used alone or combined to produce highly-specific shades; they can also dilute to create lighter tones.  The range of available colours is broad and includes Old London Yellow/Red, Carbon Black, Rich Brown, Coffee Brown, Traditional Red, Classic Plum, Hamstone Yellow, Burnt Orange, Rustic Red and Old London Stock.

Premium quality pigmented powders are dissolved in potassium silicate and combined with a fixative fluid to create brick stain dyes.  Used for over half a century, this method of creating brick dyes has stood the test of time.  The application of brick stain dye permanently changes the colour of the brick or other masonry surface without causing alterations in texture.  The brick tinting solution creates a durable, robust and vapour-permeable chemical bond that absorbs deeply into the porous masonry.

How to Apply Brick Stain Dye

• If you have any doubt about your chosen shade, the best way to proceed is to carry out a trial application. To facilitate this process, Twistfix can supply testing pots which contain an accurate, non-permanent version of the dye. Mix and match the colours to get a precise colour match if necessary. Use a pressure washer and proprietary brick cleaner to remove the temporary colour stain if the shade or tint chosen does not match the masonry. 
• When you are happy with your chosen colour, you can proceed to apply the permanent version. It is essential to mask other areas and wear protective clothing during application as the dye will stain any absorbent material. In case of spillage, wash immediately with plenty of water.
• The supplied formula is ready-to-use. Thoroughly shake the container and decant it into a suitable vessel.
• If you desire a lighter shade, you can dilute the formula at this stage. Dilute using up to two parts of water to one of the brick-dye and mix thoroughly.
• The application can now commence. Apply the brick dye directly onto the masonry surface using a clean brush. Avoid overlapping brushstrokes as these may cause a darker shade.
• If you require a deeper tint, wait for the first coat to dry thoroughly before applying a second coat.
