6 mm x 7 m Helical Reinforcing Bars.

6 mm x 7 m long helical reinforcing bars are long high-tensile rods that strengthen unreinforced masonry walls. The 6 mm diameter stainless-steel bar is the standard rod for most brickwork reinforcement applications. Use them to create brick beam lintels spanning areas of poorly supported masonry.

Why is retrofit wall reinforcement necessary?

Unreinforced masonry panels are weak in shear and tension load resistance. Walls can deflect and crack when exposed to excessive loads and stresses from localised ground movements or lintel failures.

Reinforced masonry has greater resistance to shear and tension loads due to the high-tensile stainless-steel reinforcement enhancing it.

How Helical Reinforcing Bars Work.

Two bonded 6 mm helical reinforcing bars fit into slots cut in the wall immediately above the unsupported area. The bars extend 500 mm into bearing masonry on each side. Another two helical bars fit into a higher slot. The reinforced layers work with the brickwork to create a reinforced beam's upper and lower flanges. The brick beam supports the masonry above and spreads the structural loads.

According to BRE Good Building Guide GBG 62, our helically twisted bars have twice the tensile strength as rebar and four times that of glass-fibre rods.

Use the BRE Load Span Tables to determine the load-bearing capacity of a brick beam formed with our 6 mm bars. The tables relate to using Thor Helical 6 mm spiral bars in WHO 60 grout. Do not use the BRE load tables for other helibar systems.
