Use damp-proofing cream to control rising dampness in buildings. If your home has no built-in damp-proof course, rising-damp can be problematic. A slate or synthetic damp course is unlikely to break down and fail. However, moisture can become an issue if damage occurs to the DPC or something bridges it.
A damp course may fail due to any of the following defects.
In the absence of a working DPC, walls can soak up groundwater. The excess dampness can cause wooden floors and skirting boards to rot. Wall plaster may deteriorate, and decorated finishes may peel or stain.
Thankfully, damp proofing has never been easier. Our damp-proof injection cream contains a powerful water-repellent. Inject the cream into the walls at regular intervals. It cures to form a chemical DPC that stops dampness from rising in the wall.
Damp-proof cream is an emulsion formula on a silane base. Silane is a silicone-containing compound that deeply penetrates concrete and mortar. It offers excellent water repellency.
The silane reacts with the mortar when the cream soaks into a wall. It bonds within the mortar's pore structure and lines the pores. The damp proofing formula cures to form a water-repellent barrier. The chemical damp-proof course repels water, offering long-lasting protection from rising dampness.
Treat walls with rising dampness problems using a damp-proof injection cream. Drill a series of 12 mm holes along a mortar bed joint. The joint must be 150mm higher than the outside ground level. The holes should be at most 120 mm apart and preferably closer. They must extend 90% of the depth of the wall. Load the cream into a cartridge gun or low-pressure pump. Inject a the damp-proofing cream to fill each hole.
The DPC cream will slowly diffuse along the bed joint. It may take a month or two to cure and become fully effective. After that time, residual moisture above the damp course will begin to evaporate.
Once the wall has dried, replace all damp and salt-laden plaster per BS 6576. Consider using a damp-proof membrane if you need to replace the wall plaster before the wall is dry. Studded membranes allow early replastering whilst the masonry behind them dries.
